KITV News - COVID Vaccines Pharmacare

A group made up of six different pharmacies partnered with the Department of Health over the past week to administer COVID-19 vaccines to residents and employees at licensed care homes on Oahu.

Their belief is everyone who wants a shot should be able to get one within the next three weeks. That population includes more than 11,000 seniors and care givers at about 1,700 locations. To get the job done, they're making house calls.

Pharmacist Reece Uyeno says they hope to vaccinate about 130 people per day. Home care operators are contacted by the health department, then employees from companies like Pharmacare Hawaii are sent out. They knock-on-doors in Ewa Beach, Mililani and Waianae.

"We have two to three teams of two everyday, giving shots to patients," Uyeno said. "They're busy. They're doing about 10 homes each. The other pharmacies have multiple teams as well."
